| A little about the Village of Radium Hot Springs | ||||
|
The name " Radium Hot Springs" was so named for the small traces of Radon that was found in the waters of the Hot Springs. The fist analyst of the waters was undertaken in 1914 by the McGill University disclosed that the water was more radioactive then at the famous springs at Bath, England.
Radiums History started way before then, in 1841 a man named James Sinclair led an expidition up the Bow Valley and into the what is now the Kootenay National Park. While travelling Sinclair entered the pass and discovered the hot springs. A log cabin was constructed and the hot springs got to be known by the white people. In 1923 the Banff-Windermere highway was built and completed which became just that, a connection to the Bow Valley and the Columbia Valley. Given the location of Radium, nestled in the mountains, surrounded by the lush wetlands of the Columbia river it didn't take long for Radium Hot Springs to turn into a Motel Village. Today Radium hosts a variety of different events, from Golfing tournaments to Classic Car shows, but at the core of the Village lies the Hot Springs which will always make Radium that relaxation destination.
